How do I edit a date of a payment I received for an invoice?

I put an incorrect date of a cheque payment I received for an invoice.  How do I change (edit) this transasction?

How do I edit a date of a payment I received for an invoice?

Hello DD5657,

 

It's a pleasure to see you in Community. Welcome!  I can understand the need to ensure your payments are recorded accurately, so your accounts remain aligned. QuickBooks Online enables you to edit your transactions effortlessly.  I would be glad to assist!

 

It's important to note that any changes to transactions can have a negative impact on other areas of your books.  This includes but is not limited to, Sales Tax filings and previous Reconciliations.  If the transaction has been recorded in a previous month, I recommend speaking with an accounting professional for their expertise and best course of action.  If you don't have an accountant, We can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your local area.

 

To proceed, QuickBooks provides a couple of ways to edit the payment details.  I'll provide both, so you can choose the best fit!

 

Follow these steps to edit the payment;

 

1. Open +New and then Receive payment

2. Click on the history icon in the top left

3. Scroll down and hit View more

4. Locate the item in the list and select it to open the transaction

6. Edit the Payment date  

7. Hit Save and close

 

You may prefer to edit the payment in the Chart of accounts;

 

1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of accounts

2. Open the Account history in the Action column

3. Locate and select the transaction

4. Hit Edit

5. Make the appropriate changes

6. When finished, hit Save and Close
