Hello TwistVictoria,
The option to connect your bank account to QuickBooks allows you to save time by easily adding and matching transactions from your bank account directly in the program. With Banking Rules, you can take that a step further by letting the program know how to handle certain transactions for you. I want to make sure that you're able to take advantage of this feature.
I see in your original post that you've tagged both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Self-Employed as the product you're using. These are two separate versions of QuickBooks, so knowing exactly which you're using makes a difference in resolving this situation where you're unable to set up your rules the way you'd like.
I'm going to leave you with a couple of articles, one for each version of the product, to make sure you have a sense of how the Banking Rules feature works. If you still need a hand, check out the support options that I'll leave at the end of this post.
