Hi Annie3,

Sales tax is an essential component for most businesses, and recording your sales tax filings in QuickBooks Online is designed to be quick and simple. I know how vital it is to ensure everything has been recorded properly, so I'll explain what's happening with your Sales Tax Exception Report following an undo of your latest filing.

As an accountant user, you'll have the ability to undo your sales tax filing from the Tax centre. When you click Undo, you'll see the following prompt:

"Heads up: You recorded transactions for this period after marking the return filed. We’ll include them on this return next time you mark it filed. You recorded a payment for this return. We’ll automatically apply it next time you mark this return filed."

If you proceed with the unfiling, your exceptions will become regular transactions for the un-filed period. Your return and related transactions will now be listed under 'open returns.' There will be a record of the previous filing under the 'filed returns' area, with a status of 'reopened'.

If you recorded any payments towards this return, as mentioned in the prompt, they won't be deleted. They'll simply be applied the next time you file the return in your account.

In order to make sure everything matches up correctly, you'll have to re-enter your exceptions and file your return with the proper dates, information, etc.

Here's how to do that: File Sales Tax.
