Created a sales tax code for NS for 15%, but the sales order created using this tax code is zero, why?

Hi sohoconcept,

Being able to create the correct sales tax codes is an crucial part of creating invoices and bills. I'd be happy to help you with this.

QuickBooks Online makes it easy to create sales tax codes and have them linked to the correct accounts. In fact all you need to really do is select the province and QuickBooks Online does the rest. The reason it might be showing as zero sales tax added could be because the tax was only set up for one type of transaction such as purchases or sales. It's best to let the system create them for you as it'll make sure both purchases and sales are set up and linked to the right accounts. In order to create a sales tax code you can go to: Taxes>Manage Sales Tax>Add Tax. From there you just need to check mark the province you need and you're good to go.

If you still wish to make your own you can follow the steps in this link on how to create it.

Hope this helped!

Hello,

Tax code A was already created for NS 15% followed the same procedure as stated, but when trying to create a sales order with A tax code, the taxes appears to be zero, nothing was added/calculated on the taxes.

Hi Again sohoconcept,

If you followed the steps provided earlier your sales tax screen should look similar to this screenshot with both sales and purchases saying 15% and the sales tax name being HST NS.If you are seeing anything else the sales tax code was not set up correctly and will need to be created again. Also as you mention this is with sales orders are you using a third party app to make these as this is not a feature that is available in the Canadian version of QuickBooks Online. I suggest also trying a different internet browser to see if this continues to happen.

If it does continue to happen I'd recommend contacting our support team using one of the following options.

Schedule a Callback or Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat. Support is available from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET.

Social MediaFacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

Have a great day!

Thank you for your help, if this code was not setup properly, how do I delete it and re-create one.  I had tried to create another tax code for the same province, it say the tax code was on file, thanks.

Hi sohoconcept,

At this time you can only make a sales tax code inactive by clicking on make inactive to the right of the sales tax code.

If deleting sales tax codes is a feature you wish to have included I suggest sending feedback to our developers by following these steps:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions then select Next.
  3. You'll be provided a list of suggested Help articles related to your comment. You can read through them or select Skip and send message.
  4. From the drop-down, choose the appropriate category, then select Send message.

Have a great one!

It's so silly that this even needs to be requested as a "feature". It's SO SO basic and should have been noted as a requirement during the UI / UX design phase eons ago. They should do their job - not have me request a non-feature, feature.

Hi midnightlightning,

I appreciate your thoughts on this. I hear how having the option to delete a sales tax code would be a useful feature. At this time, the option to delete a sales tax code completely isn't available to protect the integrity of the data in the Sales Tax module and your books overall. For instance, deleting a sales tax code that was previously used in any capacity could negatively impact your books and throw of balances for your accounts, transactions, and sales tax filings.

If there is an issue with a sales tax code that's part of the setup of QuickBooks Online, such as provincial or territorial sales tax codes, my recommendation is to contact our support team so that we can take a closer look at what's going on and alert our engineering department if needed. The contact options previously shared by my colleague will get you connected with support.

I hope this helps explain things a bit. Don't hesitate to reply if you have other concerns you'd like to go over.
