Doing BC entries, why does it not calculate the 5% GST correctly?

Hi lorraine-roadrun,

I'm glad to see you reaching out to Community.  Welcome!  Using the Sales Tax Center in QuickBooks Self Employed is a great way to manage and track your transactions accurately.  I'd be happy to assist you!

QuickBooks automatically sets up common Sales Tax codes based on your company's location.  GST would be 5%, PST 7% and combined would be 12%.  You can set the price of products or services as inclusive or exclusive of Sales Tax.  Exclusive of tax doesn't include it in your items, therefore, it gets added to the amount.  Inclusive already includes the Sales Tax in the price of the product or service.

You can change the Sales Tax on invoices from Your Work Info page.  This doesn't impact draft invoices unless you do it on them directly.  Editing the it on an Invoice, updates the current invoice but not Your Work Info set up.  Additionally, you'll only see the income and expense categorized transactions on the Tax Summary Report as QuickBooks Self Employed is a cash-based Accounting software, so when you 've added tax to an invoice it won't be reflected on the report.  For your reference, please review this Sales Tax Overview article.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach back out.  We'd be glad to help!
