5 ways to stay motivated as an entrepreneur

Being an entrepreneur can be a wild ride. The highs are high and the lows are low, but the challenge is to stay continually motivated. Motivated to succeed. Motivated to innovate and create. Motivated to stay the course. So how can you stay inspired each and every day? We’ve put together five ways to help you succeed on your entrepreneur journey.

1 Surround yourself with inspiring people

Being an entrepreneur can be quite isolating – especially if you’re in the beginning stages of getting your business off the ground. While spending time alone can allow you to be productive and industrious, it can leave you feeling uninspired.

Find people who inspire you and endeavour to spend as much time with them as possible. It could be a fellow entrepreneur or business person, a mentor of some kind or even just a friend or family member. Make time in your schedule for the people who get your creative juices flowing and help you think outside-of-the-box.

2 Meditate on success stories

Being an entrepreneur is a risky game. It’s exciting and the payoffs can be huge. However, the pressure to succeed and fear of failure can sometimes be overwhelming. One of the best, and easiest ways, to stay motivated, is to engage with success stories.

Discover how other entrepreneurs succeeded and what their journey looked like. Read books and watch documentaries on successful business men and women and learn from their stories. While every entrepreneur will experience some level of failure in their journey, focussing on the payoff will keep you strong.

3 Take time out

When you’re an entrepreneur and forging your own path, your work tends to follow you wherever you go, from dawn to dusk. Sometimes the best way to get inspired is by taking a step back from your work. It may be counterintuitive, but getting away from your work can do wonders.

Whether it’s taking a walk outside or enjoying time with friends and family, sometimes switching off your phone and being with others is the best way to get your mojo back. Travelling and getting outside of your normal environment is also a great way to feel refreshed and ready to tackle the work ahead.

4 Celebrate the little wins

It be easy to get fixated on the big picture moments when you’re an entrepreneur. The moment when you sign your first investor or get your first client, or make a monetary milestone. However, it’s important to celebrate all the little moments along the way as well. Write down small goals, as well as big ones, so you can learn to enjoy the journey and not just the final destination.

5 Remember your ‘why’

There was a reason you wanted to be an entrepreneur. And there was a reason you wanted to start your business. Maybe it was a customer problem you wanted to solve or maybe you saw a gap in the market and wanted to be a courier of innovation. Whatever the reason, write it down and stick it somewhere you can see it. On the hard days, when you’re lacking motivation, read it out loud and remember the reason why.
