how do I undo a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online?

I’d be glad to share the information about undoing your reconciliation in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @claude8.

Once your account is reconciled, changing the end date requires that it be unreconciled first. However, please know that even small changes can unbalance your accounts. Therefore, I recommend contacting your accountant to perform this process and ensure the accuracy of your accounts.

When you’re ready to undo the reconciliation, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the account you're working on, and click on View Register.
  3. Find the transaction you want to unreconciled.
  4. Select the transaction to expand the view.
  5. In the checkmark column, select the box with the "R" until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Select Save.

If you have access to QuickBooks Online Accountant, you can use the Undo Last Reconciliation feature to revert the entire last reconciliation without manually editing each transaction. Check out this article for more detailed steps: Undo a client’s reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

After undoing or unreconciling your account, you must return to Accounting, then Reconcile and start the reconciliation process again using the correct ending date and amount.

You can post again in the Community and ask other questions about managing your reconciliation. We’re here to help.
