Yikes - I deleted a duplicate transaction that I did not mark as cleared in my reconciliation (because if was duplicate) but it threw the overall balance off anyway. SOS

Hello jennifernagel1,

Reconciliation discrepancies can be tricky and I think we can all relate, but I would love to help if I can!

To get a better understanding of what happened in your account, can you kindly let me know if the reconciliation was finalized before or after the transaction was deleted?

Also, when you mention it threw the overall balance off do you mean the discrepancy balance on the reconciliation page or your QuickBooks Balance in your register?

In the meantime here is some information to assist with reconciliation discrepancies.

Was this resolved? I did the same thing and my bank and QB balances are way off. How do I get them balanced again? I had already reconciled so I know they were good to begin with but removing the duplicates has messed it all up!

Hello Krhub,

It's good to see that you're taking care of duplicate entries in your books, and it's important to me that doing so doesn't throw off the balances in your accounts. I know having balanced books is vital for smooth bookkeeping and knowing where your business stands, and I'm here to help make sure you're able to achieve that in QuickBooks Online.

The first step I recommend taking in these situations is reviewing your transactions again and reviewing any reconciliation discrepancy reports that may now be populating in the Accounting section under the Reconcile sub-section. Since the books have been thrown off, it seems as if the transactions you deleted may have actually be reconciled after all, and a reconciliation discrepancy report in particular can highlight that for you if that's the case.

You can also use reports, such as the Transaction Detail by Account report, to review the transactions in your books to see if anything is now missing. This article can help with seeing what reports are available to you based on your plan: What are the differences in report features among QuickBooks Online subscriptions?

If you're not sure about the transactions you're looking at, the next best step is consulting an accountant. They'll be able to discuss the situation with you, review the steps you've taken in your books, and figure out where the imbalanced may be coming from. To connect with an accountant, use the My Accountant tab in the left menu of the program. There, you can invite your accountant on as a user to your QuickBooks or make use of the Find a pro to help button to find QuickBooks-certified professionals near you.

In the event that things still don't seem to be working quite right in QuickBooks Online, you can give our technical support team a shout using the following methods. Our team will be able to gather details from you and do some digging to see where things may have gone askew.
