Can payroll be set up to calculate the 8/44 Overtime obligation set by my province?

Hi there,

Thanks for posting your question in the Community. I'll be happy to assist you.

QuickBooks Online Payroll automatically calculates overtime pay when you set up the Overtime pay type for your eligible employees. This applies to both salaried and hourly employees. When you run payroll, simply enter the overtime hours in the Overtime box. You don't need to manually multiply the overtime wages by 1.5. (This applies to double overtime pay entered in the Double OT field as well.)

Fore more information on how overtime works in QuickBooks, check out this helpful article. If you're looking for more info about overtime laws, check the Hours of Work (Government of Canada Labour Program). Feel free to ask questions. I'm here to assist. :)

Can payroll be set up to calculate the 8/44 Overtime obligation set by my province?

Has payroll figured out how to calculate the 8/44 rule yet?  It's a complex formula legislated into to Alberta payroll. IE: Multiplying hours over a regular workday by 1.5 will not give the correct OT pay in Alberta.  I know QB has been working on this...

We are also wondering about this. We have 3 employees with different overtime pays 8/44, 12/191 and 10/50. Why with such a great program do we still have to calculate the hours ourselves. It's very time consuming for my office to have to calculate each employee. We should be able to run rules for each employee and QBO should by now be able to calculate these automatically when we run payroll. After employees enter their timesheet in QBO it should also be able to notify us if they are going into overtime. I do not want to have to use different apps for this and pay tons more money.
