Does anyone have a workaround to having QPP deductions calculated on company portion of group insurance contributions for Quebec Payroll?

Hi there userrussellgrant71,

It's vital that all your payroll transactions be entered correctly so the payroll liability payments made to the government can be accurate. QuickBooks Online Payroll is a great tool able to help you pay your employees for the hours they've worked either by cheque or by direct deposit. I can provide some information about payroll.

There may be another deduction type that could be best used compared to the ones you're currently using so that QPP may be calculated on the company contribution. In order to check to see if there are any better deductions than the one in use, you can go to the Payroll tab, then the Employees section. Click on the name of an employee, then Edit. Go to the section asking if there are any other deductions for this employee, then select to add a new deduction. You can browse the deductions available in the option, and for each one, there is the option to see if the deduction and contributions are taxable, and pensionable as well as how the deduction will affect your year-end forms such as T4 and Relevé 1 forms.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have done this but there do not seem to be any deductions that can be treated differently from federal deductions for Quebec, unless you have found one. Company portion of group insurance premiums are treated as a taxable benefit for Quebec, but not federally. Quickbooks adds it to income for tax purposes but does not take it into account for QPP contributions. I cannot be the only company with this issue. The same issued exists for workers compensation remittances in Quickbooks. This is very disappointing as I will need to change payroll software if I cannot find a workaround in Quickbooks.
