How do i record a payroll advance if I wrote them a cheque

You can record the advance payroll by creating a regular paycheque in QuickBooks Online Payroll, gbonhamcarter.

You can either record the $800 advance as one paycheque or based on your actual pay frequency (composed of four weeks). Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Payroll, then select Run payroll.
  2. Select a pay schedule, then select Continue.
  3. Choose the employee you want to pay.
  4. Verify that you have selected the correct pay period and pay date. You can also modify them as needed.

  5. Choose a Paper cheque as the payment method.
  6. Enter hours worked, if applicable. You can hide or show pay types by selecting the Customize table.
  7. Select Preview Payroll.
  8. Verify that you have selected the correct bank account.

  9. Select the magnifying glass icon next to the cheque's net pay to edit or preview a specific cheque, then select Save when done.
  10. Select Submit payroll.
  11. Select Print paycheques, then select Finish payroll to print paycheques.

Keep in mind how your payroll taxes are calculated in QuickBooks depends on the date of your paycheques. If you need further guidance, you can seek advice from your accountant.

For future help, you can refer to this article, which addresses common questions about tax payment and form filing in QuickBooks. Making your payroll tax payments and filing the necessary tax forms on time is essential for maintaining compliance with the CRA.
