Hello, I am currently a Quickbooks Desktop PRO user and would like to switch to Online version for ease of use and management. I almost made the the transition last year but had to switch back because one key feature that Desktop PRO had was not available on the Online version at the time. For Payroll, I would like the ability to assign an Employee to more than 1 Payroll Item and assign class to each of these payroll items. Quickbook Pro allows for this, do you know if this feature is now enabled on the Online version? Here is example of our situation. We run an Academic and Religious school (these are our 2 Classes) and we offer services during the Weekdays, Evenings and Weekends (these are our Payroll Items). An employee can be teaching weekdays (Payroll Type= Weekday) for Academic School (Class=Academic) and he also teaches on Weekends(Payroll Type = Weekends) in our Religious school program (Class=Religious). Quickbook PRO allows me to select multiple Payroll Items and when I am doing the Payroll it allows me to select Class for each of the Payroll Items. This way it allows me to track my payroll expenses by Class. What I remember when I was testing the online advance payroll version is that Employee can only be part of 1 class category and it didn't allow for an employee to be part of multiple classes. Do you know if this feature is now available on Online version of Quickbooks?
Hi smacanada,
When picking the best version of QuickBooks for your company it's important to find one that covers your needs. I can help explain classes for payroll in QuickBooks Online.
While we are always introducing new features for both our QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online programs at this time the classes for pay type feature is only available on the desktop platform.
Have a great day!
Any update on this feature on the Online version of Quickbooks where an Employee can be part of multiple classes? If not do you know if the development of this feature is on your radar? We have been waiting on this feature for over 2 years so we can switch over from Desktop to Online version. Managing desktop version of quickbook which requires the application to be loaded on a physical computer is cumbersome. We had computer hard drive failure which took considerable time to restore all our data and now with the current pandemic it has been difficult to be physically present in the office to access the software.
Hi smacanada,
Payroll using class is still not available in QuickBooks Online Payroll, and there's no ETA as to when it will be. If you haven't already, I invite you to submit feedback directly to our engineers. Doing so helps our product development team know various additional options our customers would like to see. I'll also make sure to pass this comment on to the team for consideration in future updates of the product.
If there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to reach back out.
You may explore an importer tool to import Payroll data as Journal Entries with class

The template should be like this

Quickbooks you waste a lot of your client's valuable time. You always ask us to send feedback but nothing is done. Accountants have been crying for this feature for almost a decade but because yor time hasnt come or you dont deem it necessary, you havent acted. what is the feedback for???
We have also been asking that you introduce
1. Accountant option for online in other jurisdiction other than US, Canada, Singapore and South Africa for years but these are still lacking and extremely inconveniencing
2. The payroll functionality in other jurisdictions so that globally this feature is available and compatible with local legislation but still nothing.
I wonder why you keep asking for feedback.
Very frustrating

There are QBO Accountant edition for UK, IE, AU and Global (excluding EU version).
