Based on what you've described, it sounds like there may be employees that weren't paid on the previous pay run. Normally, when you run payroll your next pay period should be the one showing up and not the previous one. The only exception to this is if you have employees that weren't paid on your last pay run.
When was the last time you cleared cache and cookies on your browser? Doing this will help fix most issues the site may be having.
