system just said I was to write cheques for payroll and it is supposed to be auto deposit. How can I cancel the payroll

I appreciate you reaching out regarding the payroll issue you've experienced, maund2001.

I understand that the sudden switch from auto deposit to writing cheques can be concerning. Let me help you address this issue.

This situation is usually caused by incorrect details or a bank block. Let's double-check the employee details and the selected payment method. You can delete the cheque to cancel it as long as it hasn’t been cashed by your employee.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Open the specific employee's profile.
2. Select the Paycheck List tab.
3. Click the Print Pay Stub dropdown and choose Delete.

If the employee has already cashed the check, there's no need to delete it. Please make sure the auto deposit is set up for the next payroll run.

If the payment method was correctly set to direct deposit, a bank block may have occurred. This happens when the receiving financial institution notifies Intuit that the account details are incorrect, causing the system to switch payments to checks instead of direct deposit. Common causes include:

  • Direct deposit changing to paper checks when payroll is processed.
  • Errors when updating direct deposit bank account details.
  • Notifications in the product or via email about a direct deposit approval failure.
  • System messages requiring the employee or contractor to update their direct deposit information.

I recommend contacting our Payroll Live Support Team for assistance. They have the tools and expertise to investigate the sudden change in your payroll method.
