I have created a company with only a chart of accounts. No transactions, customer lists, etc. Virtually empty.
I would like to create a clone of this company. Another company that will have the same chart of accounts.
I saw a thread from someone that spoke to this but I cannot find that discussion.
I actually want two clones (2 subsidiaries).
Can some give clear instructions on how to do this?
I have exported the chart of accounts in IFF format but the new company will not import this.???
Hi gedgar360,
I can see from how much you're visiting the QuickBooks Community today that you're hard at work, and I want to assure you that I'm still here with the goal of getting you on track. In addition to being a place you can ask questions, the QuickBooks Community also has a number of self-help articles, and I can direct you to a few that can help you with this process.
The first article I'd like to share with you is this: Start a new company file with data from your existing file . This article takes you through the process step-by-step so that you can have confidence as you work through it. The article also links to other useful resources for this process, so feel free to take a look at those.
When it comes to IIF files, we know those can be a bit of a challenge to work with, so we also have articles that cover those. Here are a few I've pulled for you.
Give those a read through. If you need a hand with the process of creating a new company file from an existing one, our tech support team can offer some assistance. I know I've shared this link with you a few times today, but just in case anyone else comes across this that would like to do so, here is our article about contacting support: Intuit QuickBooks Desktop software support policies
You're welcome to respond here if you have questions about the resources I've shared or more information about how it's going.
Have you tried my advise? Create a backup file and restore it with a new name?
YEAH! Looks like renaming a backup works for cloning a company.
I tried renaming a BQW and that did not work, so did not try working with backup QBB files.
Thanks
