Credit card downloads

I downloaded credit card transactions for the entire year and imported them into QBO by way of a .csv file (for some strange reason, QBO would not accept a .qbo file).  The transactions were in a single column; expenses as debits and payments as credits.  However, after I imported the transactions I realized that they were flipped i.e. expenses were recorded as credits and payments as debits.  Many of these transactions were categorized and posted directly to the general ledger using Rules.  There are a few hundred pending transactions in the "For review" category.  Is there a way to fix these two problems?

Hi Alnoor55,

It's great you're taking advantage of QuickBooks features to help you save time in the running of your business. I know how important it's to ensure accuracy across your books when navigating in the software. I'll point you in the right direction with this.

It sounds like you've used the import built-in feature to Manually upload transactions in bulk into QuickBooks Online. Making sure your file is in the correct format during this procedure is important for the system to bring over your transactions properly in the For review tab. Once in this tab, there's no way to switch or edit the display of your transactions under the Spent (for expenses) or Received (for sales) column. You'd have to exclude wrong transactions in the For review tab and review your CSV file format to make sure that each transaction is under the proper Credit or Debit column. Here's an article to assist you with that: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks

Once your format is correct, you can now go ahead and re-upload your file in QuickBooks. Since you've also categorize some of these flipped transactions in your books, you can use the Undo option in the Categorize tab to bring those wrong transactions back in the For review tab, where you'd then exclude to make room for the correct transactions. To exclude, simply check off the box beside each transaction in the For review tab and select Exclude. You also have the option to reselect those transactions in the Excluded tab to Delete if you want.

I hope this helps you get back on track! Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
