Good day,
I would like to know the best way to export 2 years of our General Ledger from one company file into a new company file. Hoping to keep original dates and COA. Working with QuickBooks Desktop 2019 Premier.
We are not able to condense the original company file and will keep a copy of the it for our reference, but want to start fresh with 2 years of information. Does anyone one the easiest way to do this without having to spend hours manipulating the export file? I have looked at doing an IIF import but the Excel export is not in a format easy to manipulate into an IIF.
The other issue I had with the IIF import is that it was treating all Accounts as a Bank instead of an expense etc.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Lisa
Hey lisa7225.
Good job keeping on top of your company file size and creating a new one before it gets too large. Getting this done as fast and as easily as possible is something QuickBooks tries to accomplish with every aspect of its software. I'd be happy to help go over how to export/import into QuickBooks Desktop.
Great news is that we have a few options inside QuickBooks itself that will allow you to export your General ledger to your new company file. Based on what you are looking to do, the best way would be to use export to IIF files. This would allow you to move over and edit more information than Excel and still allow you to importing it back.I know you had some concerns on using IIF files, but this link will help walk you through how to get everything the way you wanted: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1762786
Once you import the information into your new company file, you'll be able to see all the information you required. Should you need more from your file than IIF can export, I suggest looking into a third party app to facilitate moving everything over.
Hope that helps.
