How to separate business and personal account in Quickbooks?

Hello Eva2019,

Thanks for being a part of the QuickBooks family! I see you've chosen a few different product tags here for your post, so I'll do what I can to cover all the bases. QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online are separate products that operate differently, so knowing which we're dealing with can help us get you answers much more quickly. It also seems as if you may be one of our accountant users. If so, that's great!

Mixing personal and business funds can certainly complicate matters when it comes to a business's books. We know, though, that sometimes these things happen, such as in the situation with your client.

QuickBooks Online has a few articles that I'll link below that may be able to help.

For guidance about how to handle these transactions in QuickBooks Desktop, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the Help menu in the top toolbar.
  2. Click QuickBooks Desktop Help (Note: A shortcut to get here is pressing F1).
  3. Click the Help tab.
  4. Click the Search button.
  5. In the search field, enter "Record transactions that mix business and personal funds."
  6. Choose the associated article to learn what steps to take.

I hope that helps! If these don't quite cover what you need, it may take a bit of creativity to find something that will. Other accountant users here in the community may have some ideas, too.
