Hi Christine,

It's great to hear that you have this kind of relationship with this person that you can help each other out by buying from each other's businesses. From an accounting perspective, it can get a little tricky. Here's why.

QuickBooks Desktop can help you manage your transactions for both instances, but they need to be handled separately. There isn't any crossover with clients and vendors in the program as they're two separate entities. The same goes for the related transactions. I recommend touching base with an accountant to determine the best way to handle this sort of situation. That way, you'll be sure to find the best solution for your business.

Others in the QuickBooks community have asked similar questions. I'll link a few below that may be able to help point you in the right direction. The first is for QuickBooks Online and the second two are questions from our US customers, but they're both dealing with the same principles and feature helpful answers from our community's accountant users.

In the event you don't already have an accountant, check out the Find an Accountant tool to search for accountants in your area who are familiar with QuickBooks Desktop.
