I have the right format to import journal entries into QBOL but the import hangs with no results.?

Hello ginopetrocco1,

The option for importing journal entries is geared for simpler data entry in QuickBooks Online, and I can see how the message you're getting is slowing down that process. I appreciate you sharing the dialogue you're seeing and I'll help sort this out.

I'm not seeing any reports of this error right now, so I'd like to start with troubleshooting. It's great to hear that you've already confirmed the format for importing the journal entries since it uses a CSV or Excel file. Another area to check if you haven't is the column formatting of the document. The Prep your spreadsheet section of the Import journal entries in QuickBooks Online can help with that.

Next, I recommend browser, app, and Internet troubleshooting. Sometimes these kinds of errors occur when the cache has too many temporary files, when the using one browser over another, and other such things. Here are steps I recommend.

If that doesn't do the trick, the next step is to contact QuickBooks Online support outside of the Community. This forum is great for some initial troubleshooting, but the more in-depth steps are better left for direct conversations with an agent. That way, they can gather the details they need and let you know the next steps based on what's been tried. Here's how to get in touch.

I have the right format to import journal entries into QBOL but the import hangs with no results.?

I'm having the same issue trying to import a large (just under 1000 lines) journal entry file using the import feature in QBO. Everything goes well until it starts processing then it just stays on "importing your journal entries....we're on the case" screen. Maybe I'm just not patient enough but any help would be appreciated. I also got rid of the memo field but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Hi rvadnais,

Thanks for joining us here. It's possible that your file is just taking some time due to its size, but I'd recommend going through some internet troubleshooting to ensure your browser is running the program efficiently. You can find numerous suggestions for those on my colleague Laura post above. You can also try to import your journal entries in smaller batches to verify if your processing time is due to a large file or not.

I hope this helps! You're always welcome to stop by if you have more questions.

I found out why it was hanging up. The first entry was posting but it was stuck on the next one because I had a line with no debit or credit (it had an account #, name etc but no amount in the debit or credit). I deleted the line from my .csv file and it imported the entire file - which was about 700 lines and 55 entries.

Hi ginotpetrocco1,

I appreciate you sharing your concerns across so many threads. It's a great way to gather insight from various sources to help get to the bottom of what's going on with your journal entries and sales taxes.

As you may have seen already, I've been catching up with you to share some of my own insight on your situation, which you can review in full here: How to post a JE for Daily Sales Summary sales and tax information from another system. There may be others that still reply to you on any of your threads, however, so keep an eye out for that.

Take care and have a great weekend.
