Hello,
I am currently trying to figure out the best way to import data from my old QB profile to my new one.
The only thing is, the chart of accounts in my old QB account do not match the chart of accounts in my new QB profile. So if I import the data will my new QB account create those chart of accounts or can I match them up with the accounts in my new QB profile?

It's vital your account balances are matching. Depending on what's causing the balance difference between the old and the new account, I encourage you to go through your transactions and accounts to make sure your info is matching up. Once you've transferred the data and all transactions are matching, the balance should also be the same.

How about the chart of accounts aspect? I have more accounts in the old profile, so when I transfer the data will it populate those chart of accounts in the new profile or can I match it with the account it belongs to in the new profile?
Hi there gstephenson,
QuickBooks Online has the
feature to export and import your chart of accounts in order to help minimize
the time spent during the initial setup of your books. I can provide some
clarification on how you can set that up.
The way you can go about exporting your Chart of Accounts from QuickBooks Online is
to navigate to Accounting in the left menu, then choosing Chart of Accounts. You'll be able to see an option to Run Report in the upper left corner and once you click on it you should see a report with all your accounts. You can then select on the Export button located above the report and next to the Print Icon. You'll want to choose to export it to an Excel file in order to be able to import it into your new QuickBooks account.
The next step would be to import your Chart of accounts into your new QuickBooks Online subscription. This can be accomplished by following the steps in this article about how to Import your chart of accounts to QuickBooks Online. The accounts that are in your Excel sheet but not yet created in your Chart of Accounts will be generated for you automatically.
When choosing to import your Chart of Accounts from an Excel or .csv file, the accounts that are already existing in your QuickBooks Online account will not be able to be imported. After the step where it asks you to map each column of your file to the field in QuickBooks, those accounts will appear in a red box, saying that the import for these lines has failed. If you want to add an opening balance to those accounts, you can follow the steps outlined in this article to Enter an opening balance for an account in QuickBooks Online.
I hope this information helps you get back on track with the setup of your books. If you have any more
questions feel free to reach out. I've got your back!
