Next Steps for Uncleared Transactions after being Unreconciled

I undid the reconciliations for my 4 different accounts in QBO as corrections needed to be made to the Taxation Amount and Account Categories  for a number of transactions.

In the Account History the transactions that were previously reconciled now show an empty field under the Check-mark header. Each transaction is matched but the C is missing that use to be in the field before the first reconciliation. A Quickbooks article indicated that the transactions would be uncleared after undoing a reconciliation so I was expecting something to happen.

Now that I have the revisions completed in the accounts, do I need to go into the Account History and mark each transaction with a "C - Cleared" before re-reconciling each of the accounts. I do not want a long list of uncleared items showing in the reconciliation report and am wondering if that is what will happen if no "C" is showing in the column/box before the next reconciliation.  The transactions are not recent and should not be in the uncleared category when I do the second reconciliation.

Please advise.

Transactions that have NEVER been reconciled show the match symbol as well as the C - cleared symbol and are fine.

Thank you for your time and consideration! Hope everyone is having a great holiday!

Next Steps for Uncleared Transactions after being Unreconciled

Hello again DSG1,

It's fantastic that you're looking to ensure your transactions are properly marked prior to re-doing your reconciliation. This is great practice and will save you time in the long run. Luckily, the process of reconciling your accounts in QuickBooks is fairly easy, and I'd like to go over a few things with you.

Once you reconcile the accounts against your bank statement again, you'll notice that the column where you previously saw a C for cleared will now show an R for reconciled. The C just means that the transaction has cleared your account, whereas the R shows that you've reconcile the transaction against your bank statement. It isn't necessary to clear all previously reconciled transactions before reconciling, unless this is a practice recommended by your accountant.

I know I've shared these details with you in previous posts, but your accountant will be a great resource when it comes to inquiries like these. They may prefer that your transactions are recorded as cleared prior to reconciliation. Invite them to work in QuickBooks with you by accessing the My Accountant tab then entering their email address. The same page features the Find a pro to help button where you'll have access to our database of QuickBooks-certified accountants that are more than prepared to help you make the best decisions for your business when it comes to reconciling your accounts.

If you'd like to mark the transactions as Cleared after consulting with your accountant, you simply need to click the field where the C was showing before for each line until a C shows again. It's that easy!

Don't hesitate to reach out if there's more than I can do to support you. This process can be daunting but it sounds like you've been doing your research and have a good understanding - and reaching out for help is always a great choice! All the best.

Next Steps for Uncleared Transactions after being Unreconciled

HI Rebecca,

Great to hear from you again and thanks for your quick response! Accountant support is not an option. The accounting package that the owner has with the company does not provide support for me. Initially, the company undid the reconciliations in QBO for me and answered any questions that I had for a few weeks. After that support stopped and I am still waiting for responses to questions that your forum recommend I ask them over a month ago. I will ask them for direction about clearing transactions but I do not expect to hear from them. I must go forward and find answers from the forum or other learning opportunities.

It certainly puts a different level of stress on the experience, not what I expected!

I went in to add a C to one of the transactions that was cleared before the first reconciliation. It was easy to do and when I pushed SAVE it said " This transaction is downloaded from bank records. Are you sure you want to edit it?" I pushed SAVE and did not worry about it. Was it suppose to say that? I have never done this transaction before.

Thanks again for your ongoing support!
