Hi there,
Just started the QBO Advanced Certification, and I'm finding the screenshots in the guide document extremely blurry -- bordering on unreadable. Don't know if there's a quick fix you can apply, but wanted to provide the feedback (let me know if this isn't the place for providing feedback...).
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Michael,
Thanks for taking the time to connect with us here. It's essential you're able to complete the certification with ease and I'll be glad to steer you in the right direction with this.
First, I'd like to start off by troubleshooting this issue to determine if it's a browser-related issue. Clearing cache and cookies is a great way to clean your browser allowing it to work more efficiently. Here's an article that shows you how to do that: How to clear cache and cookies. If this doesn't work, I suggest using a private/incognito window to see if that works instead. Try this out and let me know what happens. In case this issue persists, I encourage you to contact our support team so they can assist you further with this. Here are our contact details:

Thanks for the response -- I'm doubtful that the issue is at my end, because the screen-shot images in the supplemental guide for the previous course (QBO Certification) remain crisp and clear throughout, right up to 500% zoom, which suggests that they had a higher resolution when they were inserted. When increasing the zoom in the supplemental guide for QBO Advanced Certification, the screen-shot images begin to blur right away (certainly by 125% zoom), which is typical for low-resolution images (i.e., they were compressed prior to being inserted). I expect you'll find the same thing if you compare the two documents on your own browser. I'm actually certain that image compression is the issue, because the Advanced Certification guide is less than half the file size of the other guide (despite being more than 100 pages longer).
Hope that helps...
Cheers,
M
Hi James,
So, would it be possible for someone to re-generate the pdf for the "QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification Course - Supplemental Guide" without compression?
Thanks!
Michael
Hello MjSebold. I'd like to make sure I'm on the same page as you. Could you elaborate more about what you mean by without compression?
Hi James,
Without knowing more about the software used to generate the pdf, I cannot be specific about the point at which the compression was done, or if it was done after the pdf was generated (e.g., many web-management platforms have a compression option when uploading files to a website).
But it's clear that the file was, in fact, compressed, when I compare it to the supplemental guide for the basic QuickBooks Online Certification course: despite being more than 100 pages longer, the advanced certification file is less than half of the file size for the basic certification course guide (about 10 mb vs 23 mb for the basic QBO course pdf). You can see the effect when you open each document in Acrobat Reader (or your browser), and increase the zoom for a screen-shot -- the guide for the basic course stays crisp right up to 500% magnification, but for the advanced certification guide, the screen-shots get more blurry as soon as magnification is increased.
Once you determine where in the process the compression was done, the fix is straightforward: ensure any compression option is deselected (or set at "no compression") at the "print to pdf" and/or the "upload file" steps.
Is that making sense to you, James?
Cheers,
Michael
