I am hoping someone can help. I recently had a computer crash. I have been using QuickBooks 2013 on my desktop for 10 years. I have a full back up of my 2013 files. When I try to upload them to the 2024 QB desktop trail version I am unable to. When I try to upload them online I am unable to. Neither option accepts my back up file format. After doing research - I've read the 2013 file formats cant be accepted by the newer versions. I no longer have my 2013 installation disk, but I do have my customer number and validation number which I've provided to QB. I have contacted QB via phone many times - they recommended I try the above - online and trial versions to get my files. They said my customer number and validation number do not exists (I kept a record of them upon purchasing and installing QB 2013 10 years ago when I registered my product) no help or progress from Intuit! I have downloaded the QB 2013 program, but do not have a licence number and key - I have a customer number and validation number. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
Hi there KarlaRebecca,
Thanks for reaching out about your QuickBooks Desktop file. It's a great program able to help you keep track of sales and expenses so you know the profit of your business. I can point you in the right direction for assistance with this.
While QuickBooks Desktop 2013 files can't be imported into the current version of QuickBooks Desktop, the QuickBooks Desktop support team could possibly provide you with a trial version of a prior year to help facilitate the process of importing the data into your current version. As of the time of writing, on this page to Download QuickBooks Desktop, versions as far back as 2016 can be downloaded. For assistance to see if a trial for a version able to accept the data of your 2013 file can be set up, you would need to reach out once more to the QuickBooks Desktop support team outside of the Community using the methods outlined in the Intuit Canada QuickBooks Desktop software support policies.
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here.
You can purchase a newer QB Desktop non subscription license to upgrade your version.
Hi Alex,
Thanks for your help and time! Appreciate it! Since Ive spent so much time trying to figure this out calling QB support and have been misguided already…I’m wondering…Because I registered my 2013 QB product that I purchased and do have a customer number and validation number that I was provided with from QB (which I kept record of as I was aware it’s important); Do you happen to know if I can be provided or even purchase a licence key for the 2016 download (which I have found via the link you shared - thanks for that!). If I download the 2016 I don’t think it will help me access my files without a licence number and key. Is that correct? Can I be provided one or purchase one? If so how? It’s very frustrating and IMO unethical that it should be this difficult to access my own, very important data that I’ve been using and have had access to for 10 years. Data that’s imperative to run my business. I’ve had no problem accessing all of my other data and files that relate to and are needed to run my business after my computer crash.
Thanks for your help, Chrea! Have you had experience purchasing a licence. If so how much was it and would you know how to go about purchasing a one time license? Thanks again!
You can try looking for a reused license on the marketplace (e.g. eBay). Make sure to the seller, you will pay for the license once you activate the license without any problem. Another option, you can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance. They can help you to use the trial version as a workaround.
