RBC 2FA affecting accounts - disconnected when bookkeeper tries to update

From the research I’ve done, this looks like an Intuit issue rather than RBC’s @Amanda-B @Trish_T

I struggle to believe that QuickBooks could be so negligent

RBC 2FA affecting accounts - disconnected when bookkeeper tries to update

Same ! We use RBC Royal Bank with QB and every single day I get "sign in alerts" on my phone since QB is attempting to connect to RBC with 2FA turned on. It's bananas that this integration is broken - RBC Is one of the largest banks in Canada !!! Fix this s**it already.

The worst thing is that RBC will lock your account after so many unconfirmed login attempts, often requiring a password reset.

Regardless of who's issue it is, I think the company whose software is not working correctly should be taking the lead in solving this for their customers. You would think that Intuit has an easier way of getting RBC to work on this (If the problem really is on their end), than we would (Someone from Intuit actually told me to reach out to RBC to get it fixed..)

It's hard to say. Big companies can be very stubborn and most employees other than those in the IT development departments will not be able to tell where the issue is. But yes, collaboration between the companies would be welcome.

It does seem like an urgent situation. To think that some RBC business customers are disabling 2FA because of this would seem like a major security vulnerability and worthy of escalation.

RBC 2FA affecting accounts - disconnected when bookkeeper tries to update

I have exactly the same issue, which is repeating every day! My RBC accounts in QBO get disconnected after a certain number of connection requests because 2FA in the RBC app was not confirmed. Definitely, I cannot look at my phone 24/7 to confirm the update request, and I DON"T want to disconnect 2FA in the RCB app to compromise the security of my banking account. The only advice QBO support rep gave me over the phone is to disconnect 2FA.

It is so frustrating and sad that Intuit has been aware of this issue for so long, and nothing has been done to fix it.

RBC 2FA affecting accounts - disconnected when bookkeeper tries to update

Hi Henock K, I appreciate your reply, but it doesn't help at all. I've already contacted the Support Team, and they recommended disabling 2FA in the RBC app, which is not the best advice from a security standpoint. I still need the 2FA option enabled. QBO keeps updating the banking transactions, requiring the connection to be confirmed in the RBC app (2FA), which is extremely inconvenient. I simply cannot do that at night or during the day when I'm busy and not looking at my phone notifications.

Are accountants expected to call the customer every time they try to update the transactions?

If the customer just presses "I  Approve" on the RBC app, what if it is actually a hacker who wants to transfer all the funds out of the customer's bank accounts?

Hi SMB Operations,

QuickBooks Online requires multi-factor authentication for security purposes.  You'll be asked to verify your identity to ensure secure access to your account, to keep your data secure.  Please feel free to submit a suggestion to our Development Team, if you would like to see other options in future updates.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.  We would be glad to help!

RBC 2FA affecting accounts - disconnected when bookkeeper tries to update

Hi Trish,

Thanks for responding to this very urgent issue.

I am not sure if your team understands the severity of it, and why it is such a big problem, and that none of your suggestions are actually helping solve this issue users are having with your product, which they are paying a pretty good chunk of money for by the way.

1. It's not an acceptable user experience to have to sign off on two-factor authentication every morning when Quickbooks tries to connect to RBC automatically.
2. It's not acceptable that we have to sign off on two-factor authentication every time our accountants need to pull transactions from RBC to Quickbooks.

3. It's completely unacceptable to ask your customers to turn off 2FA to their business bank accounts. (I know you did not say that, but others from QBO have been recommending that option)

4. It's not acceptable that you are taking money from us for a service that is not working and are then expecting us to figure out how to solve it with your partners. As mentioned before, if your product does not work with RBC - then please advise potential customers of that before you take money from them.

RBC 2FA affecting accounts - disconnected when bookkeeper tries to update

Hi Trish,

Thank you for your reply, although, I am concerned that you misunderstood this issue. This has zero to do with logging into QuickBooks, there are zero problem with this and I know that 2FA is required.

Perhaps you could re-read this thread, rather than me trying to repeat everything here in my reply. But briefly, the problem is when synchronizing bank transactions in QuickBooks when the user has an RBC linked bank account. RBC requires 2FA not only when you link the bank account initially but each and every time the transactions are refreshed/updated from QuickBooks.

Thank you

Has there been any proposed solution for this? I am having the same issue, and now I have to send monthly transaction statements to my accountant versus it synching up. I'm paying a lot of money for quickbook and for it not to work is really frustrating. It should be able to synch without a constant prompt for two factor authentication, which I will not turn off on RBC. It was fine for years before this recently started happening.
