Hi manymaples15,
Making sure your chart of accounts has the correct opening balance is a great way to ensure your money is accounted for. QuickBooks Online makes it easy to enter or change the opening balance after you submit them. I'd be happy to help you get this adjusted.
If you need to make any changes to the opening balance of an account after you enter it, you simply need to follow these steps to adjust it:
- Go to Settings ⚙️, then select Chart of Accounts.
- Locate the account, then go to the Action column and select Account history.
- Find the opening balance entry. Tip: If you've got the Date column sorted from newest to oldest, the opening balance entry may be at the end of the list.
- Select the opening balance entry.
- Edit the amount. Tip: If you're not able to edit the amount directly on this screen, in some cases you can edit by selecting the Edit ✎ icon.
- Select Save. Your change will not be saved if you navigate away from the register without saving.
If you have an account without an opening balance however you would need to enter the balance using a journal entry and reconcile it into your account. You can do that by following the steps in this link.
Once your balances are corrected and entered you should have no issues with entering any new information. If you have any questions on how to use QuickBooks Online we have a great support section full of video tutorials and extensive help articles. Here is the link to get there.
Have a great day!
