What options do I have for tracking tool and equipment rentals to customers?
I would like to keep track of tools/equipment using something like the weekly timesheet and then bill these to my customers.

Being able to track the usage of tools and equipment rented out to customers is a great way to know who has what and for how long. I'd be happy to help you with getting your tools and equipment rentals entered.
QuickBooks Online makes tracking your sales easy by allowing you to set up your own items and how you bill for them. At this time QuickBooks Online doesn't have a way to track how long customers have tools and equipment using something similar to a timesheet. You'd either need to manually track this information outside of QuickBooks and then enter the time in an invoice once it's returned. Another option is looking into a third party app that can help with what you're looking to do. You can reach out third party apps page by going to the Apps tab on the left of the screen.
