Unable to carry over advance to get a T4

I am wanting to generate the T4's for my staff but am unable to for one employee.  She worked for the first 2 weeks of 2023 and then went on maternity leave. She has an outstanding advance but as she is still on leave, doesn't have any current pay to deduct it from.  I can't seem to be able to carry the advance over without creating a pay cheque, which is not a possibility for her. Any suggestions on how to get around this and generate a T4 for her?

Unable to carry over advance to get a T4

Hello Amy_Bennie,

Welcome to the Community. QuickBooks offers a flexible payroll module that helps you pay your staff with ease. I'll be happy to provide more info so you're on the right track.

In order to accomplish your goal in QuickBooks,  I recommend running a bonus cheque. I encourage you to check out this helpful article that shows you: How to create a bonus paycheque. You're welcome to ask other questions. Otherwise, for methods that go beyond the bonus cheque, I recommend consulting with your accountant for expert advice.

In the meantime, feel free to ask other questions in the comments below. I'll be here.

Thank you for your reply. My only concern about creating a bonus pay cheque is that she is currently away on maternity leave and hence received an ROE. Wouldn't creating a pay cheque cause issues with this?

Yes, that's correct. In that case I'd suggest consulting with an accounting professional for advice on how to navigate this issue. You can get in touch with an accounting professional using this link here. Other accounting professionals are able to see this post in the Community and this will allow them to chime in. Let me know if this info helps. I'm here to steer you in the right direction.
