Hello Everyone,
My boss has a corporate visa and uses it strictly for work purposes. Today, he went to the bank and paid off the visa with personal funds (cash.) How do I record this transaction??
Hoping someone can help :(
Thanks in advance!
Hi Katie
The use of personal cash to pay off a business credit card needs to be recorded one of two ways, depending on how the boss plans to use the money.
If he wants the business to pay him back, you would record it as accounts payable (bill) creating the boss as a 'supplier' and mark it against the credit card bill.
If he doesn't want the business to pay him back, but leave the money in the business, you would record this as a credit card payment, marking the "Owners Deposits/Investments" accounts under Owner's Equity on the balance sheet.
Hope this helps!
Hi Katie UrbanInteriors,
If your Quickbooks not syncing with Bank you might face issues in recording the transaction, follow this QuickBooks Error OL-301.
Hi Katie_UrbanInteriors,
Entering your credit card payments the right way is imperative to make sure your accounts remain accurate. While mixing business and personal funds isn't recommended, it does sometimes happen and I would be happy to help you get this payment entered into your QuickBooks Desktop.
One of the great features of QuickBooks Desktop is the help option that both answers your questions and walks you through how to make different entries. To find the help feature you can follow these steps:
1. Click Help at the top of the screen and select QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1
2. Click Help in the pop up box shows up.
3. Click on Search and type your question.
To find the article to help you with this entry you can search for Record transactions that mix business and personal funds. Scroll down and select the option that best suits your needs and follow the steps on how to make the entry.
Once the entry is made you are good to go.
Have a great day!
