I'm having a problem at the moment where I'm trying to restore a company file after some windows issues forced a new windows install on this pc. When I went to use the restore backup it gave me error -6000 -83 and to use file doctor to fix it. When I opened file doctor and went to where the backup was located they weren't visible through the file doctor browser. What can I do?
Make sure you put the QBB file locally on your machine and try restroing it. If the error persists, remove any special characters, symbols, or spaces from the filename prior to restoring it.
That doesn't seem to have helped, is there anything else I can do?
Hi Jaysidhu,
File doctor is a great tool to fix -6000 errors, Great job with trying that first. I can help point you in the direction to get this resolved.
There are many reason you can get a -6000 error when opening a company file in QuickBooks Desktop and a great tool to use would be our file doctor program. File doctor however only picks up .QBW files to repair but not .QBB. This is due to back ups being compressed versions of the company file which file doctor can not read.
File doctor is not the only way to fix this error though and we have many steps on just how to get your file open and running again. I'd suggest following the steps provided in this article.
After following those steps if you still can't open your back up then you should give our support team a call. Their hours of operation and phone number are included here.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Which QB Desktop year version do you have? Try restore it on the trial license of QBD 2020
If the error persists, contact and ask Intuit Data Service to fix it. Otherwise, consider purchasing a 3rd party file repair service.
I'd strongly recommend to read the shared article to remove annoying error 6000 83 in QuickBooks desktop swiftly.
