Hi Steve,
To answer your question, no changes are needed on Scotiabank's end. However, you may need to log in to your bank account and complete the necessary security verifications for QuickBooks to connect smoothly.
Bank Error 185 in QuickBooks occurs because your financial institution requires additional security measures, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), security questions, or one-time passwords (OTP). QuickBooks relies on these verifications for the connection to work, and you may need to complete them multiple times before the link stabilizes.
To resolve this, log in to your Scotiabank account via their website. Complete any security prompts and log out once finished. Note that if you update any information at the bank, it must also be updated in QuickBooks Online.
Once completed, follow these steps to update the information in QuickBooks:
- Go to the Bank transactions page.
- Select your Scotiabank account.
- Select the Pencil icon, then select Edit account sign-in.
- Enter your updated bank information.
- Select Save and connect.
After this, update your bank connection:
- Go to the Banking transaction page.
- Select your Scotiabank account.
- Click Update.
- Follow the prompts to update your bank connection.
