Hello QC Community, I am in the process of closing my sole proprietary business and opening a partnership with one other person. Can I transfer my customer list details, the QB accounts setup and inventory to the new company in QB? I don't want to enter everything by hand..... I'm using QB desktop 2020, Canadian version. Thanks!
Hi @BrianMcQ
Transferring data is a great tool to get you started in your new company. It will have to be transferred via a third party migration service.
Chronobooks is the latest offering launched by Intuit to help businesses be more productive in terms of data conversion through backups. To get started, you will need to turn on the feature using the steps below:
Once there are backups saved, you can use this to restore to the new company. You can also save a manual copy of the back up to immediate conversions.
Here are some articles about Chronobooks and how to use it. Follow the steps below:
You may have 2 ways to create a new company file:
1. Utilize a migration tool

2. Purchase a 3rd party file reset service.
It is a service that will delete all closed transactions from your data file and give you a clean data file with beginning balances and open transactions. The following is a list of what is converted to the new data file:
Chart of Accounts with current balances
Customers List with current balances
Vendors List with current balances
Jobs
Other Names
Items List
Assembly Builds
Inventory Quantities and Values
Employees List
Summary Trial Balance (no detail)
Open Invoices
Unapplied Credit Memos
Unpaid Bills
Unapplied Bill Credits
Open Estimates
Open Sales Orders
Open Purchase Orders
Multi-Currency data is converted
