Updates not working

Since late 2024 my Updates have not been working - I get error 15106

In addition I can't download my Bank Feeds either - the QB Browser says 'something's not right. We're unable to complete your request...'

I have done QB Repair Hub (several times), uninstall/reinstall QBD2024 (clean install purging services and registry), Windows 11 repair tools (Scannow, DISM) - and still the problem persists.

No anti-virus except Defender at moment. Using Windows and router firewall. Turned off my VPN.

Running QB Desktop Pro 2024 on Win11.

Thoughts on solution???

Updates not working

I appreciate what you have done so far, @AndrewP416. Let me provide additional troubleshooting steps to fix the error 15106 in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The error you encounter when downloading bank feeds can be damaged transactions or corrupted data in the software. We can fix this by updating your company file; however, you encounter error 15106 when doing so.

There are two types of error 15106, these are:

  • Error 15106: The update program cannot be opened or
  • Error 15106: The update program is damaged

This is because the antivirus app blocking your QuickBooks update or you're not signed in as a Windows admin user.

To get this fix, sign in to your computer as an admin. Beforehand, if you have a QuickBooks Desktop payroll subscription turned on, download the latest tax table after every step to keep your payroll info isn't accurate.

Here's how:

  1. Right-click on QuickBooks Desktop, then select Run as Administrator.
  2. Try to update QuickBooks.

If you see the same error and since you don't have an antivirus app, let's re-install QuickBooks Desktop in Selective Startup. Follow the steps below:

First, let's switch to Selective startup to make sure no other apps get in your way, switch to Selective startup. If you're uncomfortable doing the steps, consult your computer's manufacturer or a Windows expert.

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows+R to open the Run command.
  2. Enter msconfig, then select OK.
  3. In the General tab, select Selective startup and Load system services.
  4. Go to the Services tab, then select Hide all Microsoft Services.
  5. Select Disable all.
  6. Uncheck Hide all Microsoft services and choose Windows Installer from the list of services.
  7. Click OK.
  8. On the System Configuration window, select Restart.

After that, you can proceed with Step 2 in this article: Install or uninstall QuickBooks Desktop in Selective startup. This article is US (United States) based but also applicable to your region.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Live Support Team to get this resolve. They have the tools to check your account securely and investigate the issue. You can go directly to this website to get in touch: Contact QuickBooks Support.
