Thank you for reaching out about exporting Excel files from QuickBooks Online (QBO). I understand you're having trouble locating the exported files, especially for drill-down reports. Let me clarify the process and provide information to ensure you can easily find your exported Excel files.

When you export a report or drill-down report to Excel from QBO, the saving process depends on your browser and computer settings. You may be prompted to choose a location where you want to save the file, allowing you to select your preferred folder. If no prompt appears, the file is usually saved automatically to your browser’s or computer’s default download folder.

I recommend checking your browser's download settings. If the option that asks where to save each file before downloading is enabled, your exported reports will be in the location selected when prompted for the first time. If this option is disabled, the file is automatically saved to the default download folder.

Here’s how to adjust these settings in browsers like Chrome and Edge.

For Chrome:

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Settings and click Downloads on the left sidebar.
  3. Tap Change to choose a default folder, or toggle the Ask where to save each file before downloading to have a prompt for every download, giving you control over where each file is saved.

For Edge:

  1. Hit the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  2. Navigate Settings and tap Downloads.
  3. Select Change to specify a default download folder, or toggle the Ask me what to do with each download to prompt a location every time you save a file.
