Need a work around for recording banked overtime on Payroll Timesheets, while still recording all time worked on projects each week.

Banked Overtime Agreement, in Alberta Regulations, allows no more than 44 hrs paid per week, all other overtime is banked to be released later. But if employee worked 50 hours, I want record 50 hours tracked on projects that week, but put -6 hours for Banked Time. Quickbooks Online does not allow negative hours on Timesheets.

Hello accounts-velcor-,

Welcome to the Community. It's important you're able to record banked overtime hours in QuickBooks. The program is designed to help you manage your payroll with ease and I'll be happy to share more info so you're on the right track.

The feature you've described, isn't available in QuickBooks. I can see the benefit of being able to record banked overtime on payroll timesheets and I encourage you to send feedback to our engineers. You can send feedback by clicking the Gear icon and looking for Feedback. In the meantime, I recommend manually recording the banked hours on your end.

I'll also leave this question open so other QuickBooks users can chime in and share their advice on this. Otherwise, you're more than welcome to ask other questions. I'm here to help.

Hi there,

Did you find a solution for this? I am in the same situation.

Thank you!

Quickbooks does NOT have any option for Employee Banked Overtime. And I have to record project hours each week for project invoicing and employee wages.  Therefore we do not technically bank the hours: we max the employee's weekly hours to 44, then I put any excess hours into the next week's employee timesheet on the project(s).  We have been lucky in that carry forward/bank hours have not been much, and normally catch up in a few weeks for the employee(s).  Quickbooks Advice to track banked hours manually does NOT work--payroll system pays employees for all project hours recorded on weekly timesheet--no feature to enter negative/banked hours.

NOTE:  If Quickbooks allowed "negative hours" to be entered in weekly timesheets, then I could setup a Banked Hours project for each employee to track the time in excess of 44 hrs per week.  This would be a proper Banked Hours setup for the employee, allowing the recording, tracking and release (when the employee wants--not the week following) of the banked hours properly. This was suggested verbally and in writing to Quickbooks Technicians, along with the Alberta Government Employment Standards Regulations on Banked Overtime a year ago.  Nothing has been done by Quickbooks.

Thanks, Dena

Hi Dena,

Thank you very much for your response. I think your solution of pushing the hours to the next pay period may also work for us, I'll give it a try, but I really hope Banked Hours will be a feature added in the near future, it would save us so much processing time!

Banked Hours is a standard payroll item and widely used, it does not make any sense to me that it is not an available option in QBO.

Thanks again for your response,

Claudia
