I am using QB Desktop Pro 2019. I created a budget prior to the beginning of my fiscal year. I have transactions in my first few months and my P&L report is accurate. However when I run the Budget vs Actual report and choose the budget I created, the budget numbers show but not the actuals.
Am I missing a step?
Hello tjcurtis,
QuickBooks Desktop's budgeting feature is a useful tool for keeping track of your business income and spending. This allows for a clearer picture of where you may need to make changes in your operations to stay more in line with your business goals.
Seeing your budget versus actual numbers is as simple as it sounds: set up the budget, enter transactions, then run the reports. When you run things like the Budget vs. Actual report, you should be seeing both your budgeted numbers as well as the figures that you've entered into your books through transactions. Since you're not, I've got a couple troubleshooting steps for you.
The first troubleshooting step is ensure you have your fiscal year set up for the month you need in your settings. Here's how you would find that.
This will make sure that when you're creating budgets and running reports that use fiscal year parameters, they're pulling the correct transactions.
The second piece of troubleshooting I have also involves dates. Namely, making sure the dates entered on your transactions are correct. There are a number of ways you could do this, such as by going to your vendor and customer profiles to review their related transactions, or by running transaction reports. Go with whichever option works best for you and open to edit the transactions as needed.
If you're still not seeing your actuals after verifying or modifying these details, I recommend reaching out to our support team for further assistance. With tools like a screen share session, an agent can take a closer look with you to help work this out. Check out the Intuit QuickBooks Desktop software support policies to learn more about support hours, contact information, and other important policy details.
Have a great weekend!
Thank you for your reply. I can file this under a duh moment.
I created a budget for the wrong year (1 year forward) instead of the current year. Rebuilt the budget with the right year and voila, it works.
Thought it might be a simple fix.
Great idea with checking the budget setup! Don't worry, we all have those moments. What's important is that it was an easy fix. I'm glad you were able to work it out. :)
