Hi there esterhazyesso,
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! It sounds like you're just getting set up in your account and I can absolutely appreciate making sure you have the correct configuration in your chart of accounts for your business type. QuickBooks Online makes it easy to add to or edit your chart of accounts and I'll point you in the right direction for getting this taken care of.
As a tech support agent, I can show you the ropes of QuickBooks Online and provide you articles to learn the steps to take for the various tasks you'd like to complete. For instance, you can take a look at the following two articles to learn about the chart of accounts.
To get a sense of what kind of accounts you'll need, speaking with an accountant or bookkeeping professional is the way to go. Either of these will have the training to help you best set up your books so you can have confidence in the transactions you're recording and how things such as sales tax are being calculated.
Use the My Accountant tab in the left-hand menu of your account to either invite an accountant you're already working with via email so they can become a user on your account or click the Find a pro to help button to search for accountants in your area. With just your postal code or city name, you can search and find people to connect with that both know QuickBooks Online and have the accountant training to back you.
I hope that helps!
My business is the sale of gas and diesel products from my pumps. There is also the convenience store that has food services and grocery. What industry items do I select?
Hello Ray2020,
Making sure you pick the best industry is important and i can point you in the right direction. When picking an industry your chart of accounts is based off your choice.
Due to this I'd suggest asking your accountant. If you don't have an accountant, you can find one locally by using this link to our find an accountant page.
Once your chart of accounts is made, you can always add or edit accounts by following the steps provided by Laura in the earlier post.
Have a great day!
You didnt answer the question. What industry do you choose for convenient store? The new desk top 2020 doesn't have the option for anything close to the older versions that i have used in the past.
Hi Bvg1, I know how important it's to properly set up your file when transitioning from one version of the program to the other. Here at the Community, we're dedicated to providing you the best technical support to explain the functions of the software. When it comes to how to manage your books or which industry type to choose for your business needs, your accountant is the best resource for more information and proper guidance. For that matter, I strongly encourage you to reach out to an accountant or to use the link shared above by my colleague in case you don't have one.
You're always welcome to stop by if you need anything else.
If you figure it out let me know. I've been trying to figure it out for years. Thanks Quick Books
Hello Ray, we are in the same industry. Have you figured out the system you should use? I am trying the quickbooks onlin but it's quite complicated for me.
