I need a report which returns all sales receipt line items that are tax "Exempt" - (but not "Zero Rated" items). How do I display the tax name for the line item?

The report builder has transaction line attributes like "Amount" and "Rate", and I can show the line items for the "HST/GST Payable" account - but how do I know whether the 0% rate is for "Exempt" items, "Out of Scope" items, or "Zero Rated" items. I was hoping to see "Tax Code" or similar as an available column.

Hi rolf-syllasense-,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online provides multiple reports that can be customized, so you can view what matters most.  I'd be happy to help!

When you open the report 'Sales by Customer Detail' for example, you can select your preferred columns and apply additional filters.  To see the sales tax type, open the report and hit Customize.  Scroll down and click on Filter.  Place a checkmark in the box to show the Tax Code.  The report should now indicate the sales tax name.  Here's a helpful guide for your reference.

Hi Trish_T.

While I appreciate your response, what I see is not what you suggest I see. When I open the Sales by Customer detail, I don't see the tax code as an option for selecting as a column, and nor do I see it as a checkbox in the Filter area.

As I mentioned in my original post, I see Tax amount, and the rate, but I do not see the tax code.

Did you try this for yourself and see the field? If you did, I guess the issue is that I cannot see the columns when other people can, rather than nobody being able to see the column. When I search for "Tax as an availabile column, I do not see the tax code - see the attached screenshot

Hi there rolf-syllasense-,

One other report you can do to see the sales receipts with that specific tax code would be the Transaction detail by Tax code, found in the Sales tax section of the Reports tab. This shows a report of all transactions, classified by tax code, which you can then filter to only show the Sales receipts by going to the Customize section. There isn't a way to filter this report to remove the other tax codes, but you will be able to see them separated from other sales receipts with other tax codes.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out here.
