Hey Daddycools,

Reconciling is a crucial part of keeping your books balanced and QuickBooks Online is designed to help you each step of the way. The system calculates the beginning balance in a specific way to ensure you'll always start from where your previous reconciliation was finished. I'm confident we'll have no problem sorting this out.

The beginning balance is determined by calculating the sum of all reconciled transactions. When an opening balance is added upon an account's creation (whether through the bank feed or the chart of accounts) it is automatically marked as reconciled for you. Since you've already recorded the adjustment, it's just a couple easy steps to add it to your beginning balance:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and select Account history from the Action column.
  3. Search for the opening balance journal entry you just created. Select it to expand the view.
  4. Select the box in the checkmark column until you see an R. This reconciles the transaction.
  5. Select Save.

With this, you're all set to reconcile with the correct balance! Check out this great article for additional info: What to do if you didn't enter an opening balance in QuickBooks Online

I'm here for you. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
