Hi there heather-r,
Making sure that transactions are entered correctly in your books is important to any business owner. QuickBooks Online is a great tool that can keep track of the number of expenses and sales in order to give you a better view of your financials. I can assist you in finding those duplicate bill numbers.
The best way to find these duplicate bill numbers would be to go to the Expenses tab, then select Expenses again. You can add a filter by clicking on the Filter and selecting to only have Bills showing. You can then click on the No. Header to sort the list by bill number so that you can scroll through the list and see the duplicate numbers one above the other.
If you have any other questions, feel free to post them here.
thank you Alex, that helped! i was able to pull a list of bills back to when we migrated from QB Desktop a month or so ago, and found 1 more that has been double entered, thankfully not paid yet. Unfortunately 2 slipped by and did get double paid before i realized that QBO wasn't set up automatically to notify you if you had already entered that same bill #.
One thing i would suggest to the QBO team, is that when a new user starts a new QBO account, that feature should be automatically turned ON - then they have the option to turn it off if they don't want it.
I'm glad that worked heather-r. I can see how having this turned on by default would be something that could help out new users of QuickBooks Online avoid any duplicate bill numbers. I recommend you leave your feedback in the system by clicking on the Gear icon, then Feedback.
