I've created projects in QBO and have recorded supplier invoices, customer invoices, & journal entries. I've made sure I've included coding for my projects. I'm not trying to run an income statement. But if I select the "profit & loss report" and select "project" in "display columns by" I get a report with my project name in the top column but the report is ignoring all of my journal entries!
Am I missing something or does QBO think this is right?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for posting here in the QucikBooks Community, @rcrh.
I can share some insights about this projects process in QuickBooks.
As an overview, our reports follow the Sources and Targets concept. This means that the data shown on the report is derived from the source transaction details. Your profit and loss gets the data from your income and expense transactions and other elements.
To make sure an entry posts in a P&L report, review if the transaction uses the accounts specific to the reporting type selected. In your case, if the journal entry does not appear, verify if it includes income and expense accounts. JE's using other accounts are most likely posted in the Balance Sheet report.

I know you have a mix of users but are you really suggesting that I'm looking for a balance sheet account on my income statement?
Let me clarify further.
I currently have ONE project.
I've recorded supplier invoices, customer invoices, & journal entries (that include P&L items).
If I run a P&L with no filter I get one result and then if I select "project" I get a different result. When I drill down on the lines that are different I can see that the journal entries (all of them) are being excluded from the "project" income statement.
Any other suggestions?
Hi rcrh,
Thanks for the clarification. One of the reasons the journal entries can be exclude from the profit and loss report by project is if the project is not assigned to any of the journal entries. If the project isn't t chosen when creating the journal entry, the journal will show under the profit and loss report and won't show under the profit and loss report by project.
I'd encourage you to review your journal entries to ensure that the project is assigned to them. When you open your journal entries, on the drop down menu under the name column, you'd need to make sure that the project is assigned for your income or expense account.
If the project is designated on the journal entries and aren't showing under the profit and loss report by project, I encourage you to complete some browser troubleshooting steps as browser cache and cookies can impact the functionality of the system.
