Hi everyone,
A client sent us their payroll data to analyze but it's structured in report form and will require a lot of cleaning up to make it usable. I'm looking for the data in flat-file format. See attached images.
Before we embark on cleaning the data, wondering if QuickBooks Desktop has a feature to do this through an export?
Thanks!
Hey sheidari81.
Exporting files from QuickBooks is a quick way of sharing information with others. QuickBooks Desktop can export .CSV files, which will show you the payroll data like the screenshots you've provided. I can help walk you through how to export payroll data into a .CSV file.
The best way to get your clients payroll data would be to run a Payroll Summary Report by going to Reports>Employees & Payroll>Payroll Summary. Once the report is pulled, it's as simple as following these steps to export it to .CSV:
1. Select the Excel drop-down at the top of the report.
2. Select Create New Worksheet.
3. On the Send Report to Excel window, select Create a comma separated values (.csv) file.
4. Select Export.
5. Assign a file name, then choose the location where you want to save the file.
Once that's done, your client will need to send you the .CSV file and you can go over it at your leisure.
Hope that helped.
You may utilize a 3rd party exporter tool to get a Time Tracking data from QB Desktop.

The output should be like this
Name | Transaction Date | Customer | Service Item | Payroll item | Duration | Class | Billable | Notes |
John Marks | 01/09/2020 | Nguyen, Tuan | Labor | Regular Pay | 1:25
John Smith | 02/09/2020 | Nguyen, Tuan | Labor | Regular Pay | 2:00
Karen Marks | 02/09/2020 | Links, John | Labor | Regular Pay | 1:25 |
None of the data lines up and the way it is formatted is unusable. It absolutely is useless. You can't even use a pivot table on this crap.
