Can I add discounts so that it shows up on the invoice?

Hi westwindequinema,

Welcome to the community! Making sure you have every detail you need on your sales forms is essential in the running of your business. QuickBooks Self-employed is all about simplifying your invoicing process. I'll be happy to assist you with this.

To add a discount on an invoice, you'd have to create a new line in the form. Here's how.

  1. Select Invoices from the left menu.
  2. Click Create invoice.
  3. Enter the customer information as needed.
  4. Click Add line under the Description heading to add your first line to the invoice.
  5. Select Add to invoice.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for other items or services charged to the customer.
  7. Select Add line again.
  8. In the Description section, give it a name like Discount. (Note: You can be more specific if you'd like.)
  9. Make sure to toggle off Sales Tax to prevent the program from counting sales tax on the discount amount too.
  10. Enter the discounts as a negative dollar figure in the Amount column. (Example: -50)
  11. Select Add to invoice.
  12. Select Send invoice when it's complete.

And that's it! If you need any closer assistance during these steps, feel free to connect with our support team using the QB Assistant tool

We'll be happy to help you get back on track!
