HST not correct in calculation, rounding up

Customer brought it to my attention but the HST is not calculating correctly. Subtotal $498.87 HST (ON) @ 13% on $498.87 $64.87 Should be $64.85 in this instance. Basic math, not sure why this is happening. On many invoices I have been checking.

HST not correct in calculation, rounding up

Hello and welcome to the Community, don135.

I understand how important it is to ensure accurate HST calculations to avoid discrepancies in the total amount charged for your purchases.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), when you set up a default provincial or territorial sales tax code, the program automatically applies the correct rate and calculates it accurately.  However, small rounding differences may occur because sales tax is calculated line by line rather than on the subtotal, typically leading to a variation of only a few cents. You can learn more in this article: Why do I occasionally notice penny rounding differences?

To address this concern, I recommend clearing your browser cache or using a private/incognito window to troubleshoot. Here are the steps to open a private window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Shift + Ctrl + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N

From there, you can log back into your account to start fresh. You can also use a different supported and up-to-date browser to narrow down the results.
