I cancelled an invoice by mistake and need to bring it back to receive payment for that invoice number.

Client cancelled invoice and we created a new one but they have now paid the cancelled invoice. I need to show "received payment" in system for that specific invoice number.

Thanks for contacting us here. QuickBooks is a versatile program that helps you bring your finances into perspective. I'll be happy to share more info so you're on the right track with accomplishing your QuickBooks goals. 

 

Before we get started, I recommend searching again for the deleted/cancelled invoice in QuickBooks using the Audit Log. This tool provides you with a list of changes/transactions that were made on your account. Using that information, you can re-create any deleted data manually in QuickBooks. Here's how to use the Audit log:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Audit Log.
  2. Select Filter.
  3. Use the fields on the Filter panel to choose the appropriate UserDate, or Events filter to narrow the results.
  4. If you've recently created these transactions, locate them on the Audit log screen, click on the blue link to open the transaction in question and retrieve the required info.
  5. Select Apply.

I cancelled an invoice by mistake and need to bring it back to receive payment for that invoice number.

The steps you provided are very helpful and I was able to find the old invoice in my audit log. How do I reuse this invoice to receive payment under this invoice #?

That's good news. You can use the same invoice number since the other invoice has been deleted. Let me know what happens when you try this.

I cancelled an invoice by mistake and need to bring it back to receive payment for that invoice number.

Even though I can see this past invoice in my audit log, I am unable to find it to receive payment. I'm unable to connect with a quickbooks agent and would really like to speak with an agent live. This is getting frustrating.
