I'm excited to see you're working with QuickBooks. Provincial and territorial sales tax rates are determined by the government, so I appreciate how vital it is that these amounts are precise in your books.

 

How to set up a new sales tax code

  1.     From the left menu, select Taxes.
  2.     Select Sales Tax. (Tip: If you use payroll in QuickBooks Online, you may need to select Sales Tax as opposed to Payroll Tax.)
  3.     Select Manage sales tax.
  4.     Select Add tax.
  5.     Under What type of tax do you want to add? select Add next to one of the below options and follow the prompts to complete set up

Having the right items show up on an invoice is a great way to keep your books correct. I can help you with this.

 

QuickBooks Online makes adding taxes easy by asking a few quick questions and doing the rest itself. At this time the only way to charge a tax as a flat rate would be to enter it as a line item. This is due to all sales taxes requiring you to enter a percent instead of an amount. In order to add the environmental tax as an item you can look through this article.

 

Before creating the item however I recommend reaching out to your accountant to make sure it's set up to go to the correct accounts. If you don't have an accountant no worries, we can help. You can go to My Accountant>Find a pro to help to find one in your area.

 

You can also submit feedback to our developers letting them know this is a feature you wish to have added to sales tax. You can submit feedback by following these steps.

 

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

 

Once it's submitted our development team will look for ways to possibly add it in future updates.
