Hi m-veitchx2,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Our goal with QuickBooks Online is to make sure you have access to the features you need, like being able to work with sales tax for your expense transactions. There haven't been any changes to the sales tax module, so it sounds like something else might be going on. I'll take you through some troubleshooting.
When these sorts of situations arise where things don't seem the quite be working the way they should, one of the first things I like to take users through is troubleshooting the cache, browser, app, and Internet. Since QuickBooks Online is a cloud software, each of those things can impact the software's performance. Give these steps a shot one at a time.
The next thing I recommend is heading to the sales tax module to make sure your codes are still active in the program. It's just a few easy steps.
After doing that, you should be able to head back over to your expense form and complete recording the transaction. In the event that the code is already active and the troubleshooting doesn't help, I invite you to reach out to QuickBooks Online support outside of the QuickBooks Community. Our team members have the tools at their disposal to see what you're seeing and help you get back on track.
Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.
Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
