How do I add on the 13% HST on my invoices?

Hi there,

Collecting and remitting sales tax is an important part of managing your business. With QuickBooks Online, you can easily setup Sales Tax so you can include it in the relevant transactions. To set up your taxes, follow the steps below:

  1. From the left menu, select Taxes.
  2. Select Sales Tax. (Tip: If you use payroll in QuickBooks Online, you may need to select Sales Tax as opposed to Payroll Tax.)
  3. Select Manage sales tax.
  4. Select Add tax.
  5. Under What type of tax do you want to add? select Add next to one of the below options and follow the prompts to complete set up.

Check this community article for more useful information on setting up sales tax. The article will go over the necessary steps needed to set up your Provincial taxes.

When creating an invoice, I encourage you to check out this resource here. The resource will show you step-by-step how to create an invoice and add tax to it.

How do I add on the 13% HST on my invoices?

Hello Dylan,

Thanks for joining in on this thread about sales tax calculations in QuickBooks Online. It's important to me that the program is handling these calculations accurately so you can have peace of mind when applying the codes to your forms. I'm here to help you with making sure that your HST is calculating 13% as it should.

The default provincial and territorial sales tax codes in QuickBooks Online are designed to have the correct and current sales tax calculations without you having to take extra steps. All you need to do is add the sales tax code you need and you'll be good to go with selecting the code on your form. To get a sense of the default codes QuickBooks Online can set up for you, check out this article: Common sales tax codes

If you mean to say that the provincial sales tax code set up through the module isn't correct or simply isn't calculating correctly, I recommend first trying the following troubleshooting steps.

This helps make sure that there are no temporary Internet files or browser, cache, or Internet issues in general that might be causing QuickBooks Online do calculate incorrectly.

If you still find that the amount isn't right, the next step is to reach out to our support team outside of the QuickBooks Community forum. In doing that, a member of our team can go over your sales tax setup with you and help you toward a solution. Here are the ways you can reach us.
