HST never filed in QuickBooks Desktop

Looks like the previous bookkeeper never filed the HST from QuickBooks Desktop. It was all done straight from the CRA webiste. How do I fix this so going forward I can file from QuickBooks. The balances are all off because nothing was ever done from QB. Please help....thank you so much in advance!

HST never filed in QuickBooks Desktop

Hi Maria1984,

I can appreciate how tough it is sometimes to take on a set of books from someone else and pick up where they left off. In many cases, especially when the numbers aren't correct, this means speaking with an accountant who is familiar with QuickBooks Desktop.

It's important that the person is familiar with the program because they may need to do some adjustments and take some other steps to make sure everything is recorded properly. For instance, it might seem like a simple journal entry should fix this, but journal entries don't touch the sales tax module properly and can result in more confusion.

What'll need to happen once you're sure the numbers are correct is filing the sales tax from the beginning of the books up to the end of the next reporting period. That way, you can get the books up to date and you'll be able to continue with filing sales tax from there on out.

I've got some articles here to help you with sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop.

I hope that helps! to connect with a QuickBooks Desktop savvy-accountant, check out this link, enter your postal code to search near you, and filter for the product you're using: Find an accountant

Have a great rest of your day.
