System won't calculate taxes spent on multiple items from a receipt when you're trying to balance a split expense? I have to individually calculate taxes for each item.

When splitting an expense I input the subtotal for each item on each line but at the end the expense isn't balanced and won't let me apply it. Am I to individually calculate the 13% taxes on each subtotal in order to balance it?

Hi userpetitlawncare,

Having the ability to split up a transaction when categorizing bank feed items helps simplify the bank matching process. I want to ensure that you're able to get this transaction split and categorized properly.

You're correct that when splitting a transaction amongst several different accounts, you'll need to include the HST or GST amount related to that line with the subtotal in order for the transaction to balance. I tried putting the GST amount in its own line within my test account and selecting the GST Payable account, and I confirmed that the system won't let you save it if a tax liability account is selected for one of the lines, so having the tax amount on it's own line isn't an option.

I can see how this could be a bit tedious depending on the number of lines within a particular transaction. If you have a moment I recommend submitting some feedback to our development team about this. You can find the steps to submit your feedback from directly within your QuickBooks Online company in this article: How do I submit feedback?

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with!

Of course it's tedious!

We have to use calculator when there's this thing called computer that is supposed to help us!

This is essential, put that input in that React app and stop wasting our time!
